When babies are premature, all the time prior to the due date is considered to be growth that would have been taking place in utero, and the age of the baby is considered to start after the due date. This is called "Adjusted Age" and the baby's growth and development is followed by doctors according to their "Adjusted Age" for the first 2 years of life. After 2 years, they typically balance out their abilities with their actual birthday. My pregnancy due date was August 4th, so the twins' adjusted age is now 4 weeks, even though they are technically 5 months old next week, September 11th.
We are looking forward to more eye contact and more frequent smiling in the next 2-4 weeks, as their adjusted age will be 6-8 weeks. For now, the twins act more like 4 week old newborns except that they are both rolling over about once per day, not sure what to make about that. Their doc says it may be accidental, we choose to call it genius.
